After the sensational robbery, the director of the Louvre Museum, Laurence des Cars, submitted her resignation, but her request was rejected on the grounds of the museum's upcoming renovation works. This is reported by "Le Figaro," citing sources. The director of the Louvre is appointed by the President of France upon the recommendation of the Minister of Culture.
"Des Cars, the museum's director, resigned, but in vain. Emmanuel Macron, who supports the director he appointed and to whom he has entrusted the implementation of the Louvre's renovation, has even called her several times in recent days, urging her to stand firm and not to disrupt the momentum of the museum's renovation," the sources write.
As a reminder, on October 19, thieves broke into the Louvre and stole nine jewels, including crowns, earrings, necklaces, and brooches that had belonged to the queens and empresses of France. One of the jewels, the damaged crown of Empress Eugénie de Montijo, was recovered and returned to the museum. The damage caused by the theft is estimated at 88 million euros. The probability of finding the stolen goods, if it is not within 24-48 hours following the robbery, is estimated by experts to be very small.
